Area of Scientific Interest: method of boundary integral equations, non-stationary interaction of deformable media and compliance structures, models and numerical calculation methods.

Contribution: L.A. Igumnov has studied the regularities of elastic and viscoplastic deformation and destruction of metals and alloys under thermal power loading, has developed mathematical models and methods of parametric identification and has studied the regularities of high-speed deformation and destruction of low-plasticity, porous, differently resisting media, metals and alloys. He has created a modification of the Kolsky method, plane-wave and ballistic experiments, has studied the main regularities of dynamic processes in three-dimensional linear anisotropic viscoelastic bodies and media, taking into account the coupling of fields of a mechanical and non-mechanical nature, has solved some three-dimensional initial-boundary value problems, has developed the method of singular boundary integral equations and an approach based on regular integral equations of the Fredholm type of the first kind. L. A. Igumnov has studied the patterns of behavior of dynamic systems with impact interactions, taking into account the forces of dry friction with memory and the oscillation limiter.
